Heatshockfactor1(HSF1)isaheatshocktranscriptionfactorthatactivatesthetranscriptionofgenesencodingproductsrequiredforproteinfolding,processing,targeting,degradation,andfunction.Up-regulationofexpressionofheatshockproteinsinresponsetostressoccursattheleveloftranscriptionthroughaheatshockelementandaHSFtranscriptionfactor.
AminoacidsequencesformostHSFsarehighlyconserved.ADNAbindingdomainisattheN-terminus,hydrophobicrepeats(essentialtotheformationofactivetrimers)areadjacenttothisbindingdomain,andanothershorthydrophobicrepeat(necessaryforsuppressionoftrimerization)occurstowardtheC-terminus.HSF2existsastwoisoforms,thealphaformbeingmoretranscriptionallyactivethanthesmallerbetaform.VariousexperimentshavesuggestedthatHSF2mayplayrolesindifferentiationanddevelopment.
ThisantibodyrecognizesHSF2inheat-shockedcelllysatesofhuman,mouse,rat,rabbit,bovine,canine,porcine,guineapig,hamster,sheep,andmonkey.
