Hsp25isthemousehomologueofhumanHsp27,amemberofthesmallheatshockproteinfamilycomprisedofproteinsof~15->30kDa.OligomersofHsp27consistofasmanyas8-40Hsp27monomers;largeoligomershavehighchaperoneactivitywhereasdimershavenochaperoneactivity.Hsp27islocalizedtothecytoplasmofunstressedcellsbutredistributestothenucleusinresponsetostresswhereitmaystABIlizeDNAand/orthenuclearmembrane.Itcanberapidlyphosphorylatedinresponsetophysiologicalstimuli,and,therefore,hasbeensuggestedasanimportantintermediateinsecondmessenger-mediatedsignalingpathways.Hsp27appearstobeinvolvedincelldifferentiationandmayplayaroleinterminationofcellgrowth.
