TwonewsubunitsoftheNMDAsubtypeofglutamatereceptor(NMDAR)havebeenidentified,NR3AandNR3B,withNR3BlikelybeingthefinalmemberoftheNMDARfamily.Thesesubunitsshowhighsequencehomology,althoughdifferentdistributionpatterns:NR3Bisexpressedpredominatelyinmotorneurons,whileNR3Aismorewidelydistributed.WhenexpressedinXenopusoocytes,NR3AorNR3BassemblewithNR1toformexcitatoryglycinereceptorsthatareunaffectedbyglutatmate.

ThisantibodyrecognizesNMDARsubunitsNR3AandNR3B.Itdoesnotcross-reactwithsubunitsNR1orNR2A-D.
