Rab5 is a member of the Rab family, Ras superfamily, of small guanosine triphosphatases (GTPases) and is expressed in all human tissues. Rab GTPases are regulators of membrane trafficking in eukaryotic cells. Their regulatory capacity depends on their ability to cycle between the GDP-bound inactive and GTP-bound active states. Activation of a Rab protein is coupled to its association with intracellular membranes, allowing it to recruit downstream effector proteins to the cytoplasmic surface of a subcellular compartment. Through these proteins, Rab GTPases regulate vesicle formation, acitn- and tubulin-dependent vesicle movement and membrane fusion. Rabaptin-5 and EEA1 are among the proteins recruited by active Rab5.

This antibody recognizes human, mouse, rat, bovine, and monkey Rab5. Other species have not been tested.

Immunoblotting: use at 1ug/ml. A band of ~24-26 kDa is detected.

Positive control: HeLa cell lysate.

Dilute in PBS or medium which is identical to that used in the assay system.

This antibody is stable for at least one

(1) year at -20oC. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
